M.S. Student, Dawn Canterbury, awarded grant for Gopher Tortoises

Dawn Canterbury was recently awarded a Walter F. Coxe Research Grant from the to support her Master鈥檚 research on Gopher Tortoises entitled 鈥淒igging deeper into the genetic and environmental predictors of pathogens affecting Gopher Tortoises (Gopherus polyphemus) in southwest Alabama鈥. Dawn鈥檚 research focuses on the behavioral and disease ecology of Gopher Tortoises in Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama. Dawn is co-advised by Drs. Adam Chupp and Jason Strickland. Dawn earned her bachelor鈥檚 in biology from Jacksonville State University in May 2020 and joined the Biology Dept. at South in August of 2020 to pursue her Master鈥檚 degree.
